Anna Maria Baldini has recently posted that Tuscany could be Europe’s most affordable vacation destination. In terms of value for money, I agree with that 100%. There’s no doubt that Tuscany provides inexpensive, even cheap, options in terms of vacation accommodation, food, wine and transport. Plus, of course, all the things that were always free – the Italian people (especially Tuscans!), the beautiful countryside, the picturesque villages, the towns and cities packed with wonderful art and architecture.
Anna Maria looked at what visitors have to pay for comfortable accommodation in the smaller towns, villages and in the Tuscan countryside and concluded that, due to a variety of factors, the price of a place to stay for your holiday in Tuscany has decreased significantly in real terms during the past decade, even when calculated in dollars or pounds.
My own survey of restaurant prices in Tuscany compared with prices in the US and the UK indicates that eating out in Tuscany has remained stable in euro terms and has become comparatively cheaper than in the USA and the UK where prices have increased much more than their respective currencies have lost value against the euro.
If you’re planning a vacation, now is the time to give Tuscany serious consideration.
Here’s my list of recommended vacation rentals, villas, agriturismi, B&Bs etc in Tuscany.
